Biketards are unitards that have been created for cyclists. They are cut to provide maximum comfort and mobility for the extreme demands of those who push the limits of physical activity. Biketards are light and flexible thanks to their construction and are very durable.

The biketards can stand up to repeated washings and still retain their shape and elasticity. They are also very effective for other types of activities such as gymnastics, aerobics, and boxing among others. Many people love the way that a biketard feels against their skin. Biketards also come in many different styles that provide extra support, comfort and style.

The biketards are also available in a wide range of color choices to add a fashionable flair to your workouts. Patterns are also available and can be coordinated for team competitions. The real selling points of the biketard is the fact that it covers the torso fully while allowing the arms and legs to remain free and unencumbered. This allows the wearer to feel covered while giving them the freedom to move as they naturally would.

Biketards also allow for a wearer to wick sweat away from the body while letting excess heat with ease making it possible to work out longer without the dangers of becoming overheated. Adult sizes run from petite to full-figured while the children sizes run from extra-small to extra-large. With so many options to choose from it’s no wonder why so many people make biketards their active wear of choice.

If you have decided to create your own unitards – regardless of whether you want to make them for you or your kids – you should know that there are certain tools and equipment needed to do so.

Source

Just like many other sewing or fashion projects, making a unitard requires equipment. The first thing you will need is a straight stitch sewing machine – quite simple, neutral, forwards and backwards. This is a very basic sewing machine you can find at just about any specialized store.

Other things you will need include a baby lock surger (a four thread surger), a good pair of scissors to cut our your pattern, a little pair of nippers to clip the threads, and a thread stand. It would also be great if you had some pens and some marking chalk, but these are not really necessary.

You can find out more about the tools and equipment you need to make unitards in the great video below, which also explains what every piece of equipment is good for.

Tips For Buying Gymnastics Leotards

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Leotards are popular pieces of clothing worn by gymnasts, dancers and also by anyone who needs an increased level of mobility when exercising or working out. Leotards are commonly made from qualitative, stretchy materials, which allow the body to perform a wide range of motion, with no impediments. Well, if you need to purchase a leotard for gymnastics workouts or competitions you should be really careful. There are some things you need to keep in mind. Below you can read something about the most important ones.

Coverage

One of the first things you should consider is coverage. The gymnastics leotard you purchase has to perfectly fit you, providing at the same time good coverage. If the leotard is going to be used in gymnastics competitions, it should provide enough coverage to hide underwear, as well as bra straps. A gymnastics leotard should not be too tight or too lose, either, for your personal comfort.

Source

Material

Skin should not suffer because of the material from which gymnastics leotards are made of. Commonly gymnastics leotards are made of sturdy, opaque materials, which are stretchy and breathable. This is exactly what you should look for. Some of the best materials from which gymnastics leotards are made of include cotton, velvet, nylon and spandex. If you plan on attending a certain competition, you should ask for the advice of your coach on which material to use, in order to match textures and colors. If there are no special requirements you will have to meet, choose the leotards that feel most comfortable on your skin.

Source

Purchase

When willing to buy gymnastics leotards you have two main options: you can purchase them from stores or you can buy online. If you plan on buying online make sure that the size you choose is the right one for you. As already mentioned, fit is highly important.

Source

Models

There are numerous models of gymnastics leotards available in sale nowadays. Commonly, the leotards used for practice are tank leotards, while the ones used in competitions have long sleeves. Gymnastics leotard models vary a lot when it comes to designs and colors. Two-pieces ensembles are not ideal as they can easier cause issues for the gymnast. In fact, when it comes to models, coaches usually pick two competition leotards for their teams. They include a tank-style warm-up model and a three-quarter-length and long-sleeve leotard, which is commonly used during the performance. High-cut, backless, bare midriffs and spaghetti straps leotard models are not allowed in competitions.

Source

Care

Naturally, you do not want to purchase a new model of gymnastics leotard each month. So, you have to be extremely careful when washing it. There are various instructions that the item will have on its label. It would be a great idea to follow them. It is recommended to avoid putting the leotard in the dryer.

Source

So, if you plan on buying a leotard you need to first make up your mind on the reason of purchase. In case you plan on using it for gymnastics competitions, you need to be certain that you respect all rules and meet all criteria. Still, you need to be certain that the items you will wear will make you feel comfortable, without harming in any way your skin. You also need to be sure that the color you have chosen is one that will make you feel comfortable for all your performances to be at the highest level.

American Gymnast Team Wear Beautiful Leotards in London

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Gymnastics is one of the most popular sports of the Summer Olympic Games, and part of the fun remains in the colorful and creative leotards worn by the athletes. 2012 was an exciting year for the American team of gymnasts. Olympic fans witnessed the amazing performance by the US Women’s Gymnastics team while they defeated Russia and won gold. Their smiles beamed proudly as they hugged each other and waved to the crowd.

Source

These golden girls, Gabrielle Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Alexandra Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Weber amazed the audience with their stunning outfits. The leotards are the most important piece of their equipment. The US women’s team wore a bold red for their gold medal performance, as shown in the picture below.

Source

For those of you who do not know what the gymnastic leotards are made from, here is an explanation. Adidas is the official apparel provider for USA Gymnastics and used a Pennsylvania company named GK Elite to create the team’s competition leotards. Adidas and GK Elite, which designed the 2012 Olympic leotard used a fabric called Mystique. The same company also offers the Nastia Liukin Gold Medal Collection and Shawn Johnson Leotard Collection for gymnasts aspiring to follow in the footsteps of the Olympians.

This special type of fabric must meet very strict guidelines for stretch and offer the gymnast enough coverage with two layers to remain colorful when put to the maximum. The fabric that is gymnastics new staple allows the gymnast a cooler feel under the arena lights while the past uniforms are rather hot.

This material, Mystique, has become the sport’s most popular fabric over the last few years. Mystique starts with a nylon spandex base that must pass GK’s stringent stretch requirements. On top of the nylon is a layer of small foil dots, a pointilist array that covers nearly the entire spandex surface.

Aly Raisman wearing Mystique Leotards

Tanya Chaplin, the head coach at Oregon State University, says that even in gymnastics fashion has influenced how leotards are made. Comfort plays a major role in the recent popularity of the material. Though the material doesn’t wick away sweat, this is a compromise sportswomen seem willing to make this compromise.

Of course, criticism rose over whatever the 2012 Olympic gold Champions gymnast team from the US wear, but love it or hate it, the women sparkled and it had very little to do with the leotards.
